Sclerochronology Laboratory

A sample preparation laboratory primarily for accretionary carbonates with annual growth increments, e.g., shellfish (bivalves, gastropods), otoliths, corals, and coralline algae.

The laboratory holds all equipment needed for embedding, cutting, grinding, and polishing different types of specimens before sclerochronological analysis.

Light microscope and image analysis software for subsequent studies of growth increments are also available.

The laboratory is equipped with different types of drills, including a New Wave Micromill, to sample material for geochemical analysis.
