Work, Health, and Inclusion

Barriers and facilitators for work participation

Employment is, in most cases, health-promoting. Work participation is therefore particularly important for individuals who of various reasons have a weak attachment to the labor force, such as refugees and individuals with a mental illness. The question of barriers and facilitators for work participation should be investigated from different perspectives: That of the individual, the social and welfare services, and of the employer. The vocational rehabilitation program that works best today, which incorporates all of these perspectives, is Individual Placement and Support (IPS), which is being tested for new target groups.
