InSAR Svalbard: Development of an InSAR Ground Motion Service in Svalbard

InSAR Svalbard: Development of an InSAR Ground Motion Service in Svalbard

A Ground Motion Service (GMS) based on Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) technology produces and delivers deformation maps and time series over large terrestrial areas, based on freely available SAR satellite images, such as Sentinel-1. Svalbard is not currently covered by InSAR Norway and EGMS. In the InSAR Svalbard project supported by the Norwegian Space Agency (2023-2025), NGU and NORCE are developing the necessary foundation to implement an operational GMS covering Svalbard.
