Jeg er en kjemisk oseanograf av bakgrunn og forskningen min fokuserer på analyse av karbonkretsløpet i havet. Jeg fokuserer spesielt på endringer som er skjedd de siste ti-årene, men også årsakene til, og mekanismene bak, disse endringene. Jeg ønsker å øke forståelsen av karbonkretsløpet i havet, både når det kommer til naturlig variabilitet og antropogene endringer, inkludert hvordan disse endringene vil utvikle seg i fremtiden. Jeg bruker mange verktøy i forskningen min, både observasjonelle og modellbaserte. Det er veldig viktig å ha robuste observasjonsdata av høy kvalitet for å kunne svare på disse viktige spørsmålene om planetens karbonkretsløp og jeg er derfor engasjert i flere internasjonale forskningsinfrastrukturer. Fremst av dem er Integrated Carbon Observing System (ICOS) hvor jeg koordinerer den norske greina: ICOS Norge og OTC, et prosjekt finansiert av Norges Forskningsråd.
