Biosikkerhetsforskning
Forskningsgruppa Genteknologi, miljø og samfunn (GEMS) ved NORCE har status som Nasjonalt kompetansesenter for biosikkerhet. Senteret tildeles midler direkte over statsbudsjettet gjennom dialog med Klima- og miljødepartementet og Miljødirektoratet.
Som et nasjonalt kompetansesenter for biosikkerhet har vi et spesielt ansvar for å undersøke uønskede effekter på helse, miljø og samfunn i miljø der man velger å bruke genmodifiserte organismer (GMO).
Hovedfokus for biosikkerhetsforskningen er å:
- Utvikle og bruke metoder og modellsystem for å kunne avdekke uønskede effekter av GMO
- Overvåke og kontrollere miljø og samfunn for uønskede effekter av GMO
- Drive framtidstenkning om nye bioteknologier, metoder og produkter
