Fermentation and bioproduction from waste streams
The Industrial Biotechnology research group at NORCE comprises 16 Researchers, process engineers and technicians with broad bio-based expertise in microbiology, molecular biology, proteomics, biochemistry and analytical chemistry.
The group works on projects within several fields of industrial biotechnology research and application area including the food- and feed industry, aquaculture and oil & gas, on projects spanning from basic R&D (Technology readiness levels 1-2) to applied industry projects (Technology readiness levels 7-8) as well as industrial production.
Our main focus is on fermentation and bioproduction from waste streams and the use of alternative feedstocks (including gaseous feedstocks such as methane, CO2, H2), process development and optimization, modelling and scale up, downstream processes and bioactive compounds.
NORCE has been working on fermentation and gas fermentation for more than 20 years, with expertise in fermentation process development, optimisation and scaling-up.
The applied R&D project portfolio at NORCE focuses on utilising climate gasses as well as waste and by-products as carbon sources for fermentation and the production of biomass, high quality protein, enzymes and polymers.
