Muligheter for å detektere bygg og bygningsendringer med Sentinel-1 (SENBYGG)

The report documents results from the SENBYGG project where the National Mapping Authority is the client. The purpose of the project is to detect building changes (new buildings, extensions or demolished buildings) using the radar satellites Sentinel-1 A and B. In the project, we have studied several possible methods for change detection. Radar satellites (SAR) have relatively good resolution (10m) but considerable noise. To reduce the noise, we average images over the same area for each calendar year. Changes are detected by comparing backscatter from two subsequent years. In the project, we have demonstrated that it is entirely possible to detect building changes in SAR images based on annual mean images. One can also reduce the time intervals somewhat, but the number of errors will increase since the noise in the images then becomes more noticeable.
