The search for a deeper understanding of how our planet functions and how we should live sustainably has guided most of Hege Indresand's life. Education in Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry thus became the educational direction. After environmental studies at Stockholm University, the path took her to bachelor studies at the University of Redlands in California, USA, which ended with a PhD at the University of California, Davis (USA) in 2008.
Indresand researched new real-time measurements in chemical analysis of atmospheric particulate matter. Since 2013 she has been in NORCE in Southern Norway, and shifted her focus to help fill the knowledge gaps in industrial dust emissions. In recent years, she has worked in several projects that help to understand and document emissions from the process industry, including smelters, chemical processes, and mines, so that companies can further work to reduce their emissions. One of the knowledge barriers is to understand the connection between the impact of emissions in the local environment around the industry and the place's topography, weather and wind. The actual goal of the research is to be able to rig the right measurement campaigns and real-time measurement systems so that the industry can gain insights into emissions in relation to its own process, and thus also steer or change the process towards reduction.
Indresand has extensive practical experience with measurements of pollution in ambient air. She has strong expertise in managing air quality and emissions within the entire value chain, which includes government regulations and measurement methodology for air pollution. In addition, Indresand has a large national and international network in the field. Indresand actively participates in “Bedre Byluft Forum” (Vegdirektoratet, Miljødirektoratet) and “Miljøforum” (Norsk Industri, Miljødirektoratet), and is on the steering committee for NKS Norwegian X-ray Conference for the 8th year. Indresand is an active researcher in the SFI Metal Production (NTNU / Sintef). Indresand has also been active in the Tekna trade union since 2013, as a union representative in NORCE for several years and sits on Tekna Vest-Agder's department board. Indresand is also an employee-elected deputy representative on NORCE's board.
