I am educated as a mathematician, and have been working with applied research for more than 25 years. I have mostly been working on problems involving porous media flow, flow in wells, and more recently renewable energy, seismic inversion, ultrasound and medicine.
My focus have been on solving problems involving data assimilation, large-scale parameter estimation and optimization. I have also extensive experience in managing research projects.
I finished my PhD (Dr. Ing.) degree in mathematics at NTNU in 1991. Since Oct. 1, 2018, I have been a chief scientist at NORCE. From 2004 to 2018 I held the same position at Rogaland Research (2004-2005) and International Research Institute of Stavanger. I started as a senior scientist at Rogaland Research in 1997. In the period 1991-1997, I was an associate professor in mathematics at Stord/Haguesund College. I was an assistant director of research at The National IOR Centre of Norway 2013-2015 and an adjunct professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Bergen 2009-2012.
